Obituary of Antonetta DiMatteo
Antonetta (Menna) DiMatteo, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on March 12, 2023, under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born on February 27, 1938, in Roccamorice, Italy, she immigrated to the United States in 1958. She was the daughter of Salvatore and Antonia (Pietrangelo) Menna and was pre-deceased by her husband, Fioravante DiMatteo on November 7, 2013.
Known as one of the top cooks in Lockport’s West end, Antonetta had a passion for cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, and tending to her flowers and vegetable garden. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished her time with family and enjoyed cooking Sunday dinners for them. Her greatest passion was her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Nonna”. Antonetta loved spending time teaching them her recipes and sending them home with her tasty treats. She enjoyed regular get-togethers with her friends to play Italian card games, was an avid bocce player, and could often be found sitting with company on her front porch. No visitor left her house hungry as she always had Italian cookies or cake on hand.
Antonetta is survived by her children, Anita (Daniel) Mullane, Louise Kern, Anna (Michael) McCann, Lena (John) Villella, Donna (John) Wick, and Frank (Shannon Kuchey) DiMatteo. Beloved Nonna of Kristina (Joseph) Bragg, Brian (Katie) Kern, Kimberly (Andy) Learn, John (Amanda) and Jessica Mullane, Meghan and Michael McCann, Amber and Andrew Villella, Patrick (Dr. Katie Spoth) Wick, Jeffrey (Jackie) Wick, and Marissa, Nicolas and Olivia DiMatteo. Great-grandmother to Jasmine, Juliana, and Jaida Bragg, Mila Kern, Neil Mullane, and Lennox Learn, and pre-deceased by two infant grandchildren, Stephen Joseph Kern and John William Villella, as well as two brothers, Carmine and Donato Menna. Cherished sister-in-law to Rocco (Concetta) DiMatteo of Toronto Canada and Angiolina DiMatteo of Roccamorice Italy.
