Obituary of Edmund M. White Jr.
Edmund Mark White, Jr. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Feb 24, 2023. He was born in Lockport, NY on Nov. 23, 1931 , son of the late Edmund M. White Sr. and Mary E. O'Neil White. In addition to his parents , he was predeceased by an infant brother, James. He attended St. John's Catholic School and graduated from DeSales Catholic High School in 1951.
He served in the United States Navy from 1951 – 1955, proudly circumnavigating the globe during the Korean conflict. After graduating from Bryant and Stratton Business Institute he worked for Goodyear Tire in Buffalo.
Ed worked at the Niagara County Highway Department, retiring in 1991. He was on the founding committee of the Niagara County Federal Credit Union and President of the Board of Directors for nine years. He was a member of the American Legion and served as Commander of the B. Leo Dolan Post in Lockport for 1967-68. Ed was a life-long member of St. John the Baptist Church in Lockport. He belonged to the St.Vincent de Paul Conference at St. John's Church and headed the Camp Committee which sponsored local children's attendance at summer camp. He and Jean enjoyed traveling with friends at St. John's as well as from St. Leo's parish on several trips to Italy, Austria, Switzerland , in addition to other trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Ireland and Belgium. Playing cards, especially bridge or rummy, was Ed's favorite pastime. Spending time at the family camp near the southern tier provided many cherished memories of seasonal hunting trips and family gatherings.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Jean (Criswell) whom he married in July 1959, Four children, Daniel M., Timothy C. (Michelle), Maureen L. (Thomas)Bligh, and Brian R. (Edith). Also twelve grandchildren, Ryan and Tessa; Anna, Tyler and Macy; Sean, Kevin, Ava and Aidan; Owen, Jordan and Carson. Also survived by two great-grandchildren , Asher and Lily. He was also the brother-in- law of Thomas R. (Elaine)Criswell, uncle to his favorite (and only!) nieces, Erin Chang and Megan Bucks.
Friends may call on Wednesday March 1st 4-7 PM at Pruddden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday March 2nd at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in St.Patrick’s Cemetery, Lockport, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Camp Fund, c/o St. John's Church, 168 Chestnut St. Lockport, NY 14094 or Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094, would be appreciated by the family.
