Obituary of Rose States
Rose M. States (Destito) passed away peacefully to be with our Lord on February 21, 2023. She was born on June 11, 1932 in Lockport, daughter of Raffaele and Rosa (Silvaggio) Destito, both from Cenadi, Reggio di Calabria, Italy. Rose attended St. Joseph’s Academy and proudly worked for Harrison Radiator for 28 years. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church serving as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Altar Rosary Society. Rose loved her Catholic faith and practiced it daily serving as an example of discipleship to all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her children, who she sacrificed so much for, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and close friends. Like her brothers and sister, Rose cherished her Italian heritage and growing up and residing in the West End. Rose is the last surviving child of Raffaele and Rosa and was predeceased by her brothers Vito Destito and Joseph Destito, her sister-in-law Ida Destito, sister Katherine Destito, son John States, and grandsons Michael States and Adam States.
She is survived by Lila Destito, her beloved sister-in- law from Carrollton, GA, sons Charles (Gloria) States, Butch States, Bob (Stephanie) States, daughter Sandra (Bob) Brechue, 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Rose was blessed to spend the past four years living in her childhood home.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, February 26th from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 27th at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
