Obituary of Robert E. Hannel Sr
Robert (Bob) Earl Hannel Sr. died at the age of 93 on February 15, 2023. Bob was bom in Niagara Falls, NY in 1929, was brought up in North Tonawanda, and started his family in Tonawanda. He later moved to and continued his caroentry career in Lockport and retired to Clearwater. Florida in 1988.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty Hannel (Bridge), his parents Earl Hannel, and Berniece Mary Hannel (Meyers), and his brothers Albert and David Hannel. He will be greatly missed by his sister Aleisa Hannel, his children, Susan (Gary) Putnam (Rochester, NY). Sherry (Ron) Adkins (Winston-Salem, NC). Diane De Young (Gasport, NY). Debbie (Don) Renczykowski (Lockport, NY), Robert Hannel Jr. (Houston, TX), his 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Bob spent much of his life as a carpenter and contractor and was proud of his involvement in the Carpenters' Union 289. In Tonawanda, he was well known for being an active member of the community. He served as an Alderman and played the snare drum in the Wheeler Street Fire Department Drum & Bugle Corps. Later, he was one of the founders of the Tan-Tara Country Club, which was the first public golf course in the area. Bob was a bowler, a golfer, a musician, an artist, and a committed family man. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Operation Smile, an organization that repairs cleft palates for children.
