Obituary of Eugene F. Oakes
Eugene F. Oakes passed away February 7, 2023 under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Born April 17, 1930 in Gasport he was the son of Francis C. and Mina G. (Hinkson) Oakes. Eugene served in the US Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War, was in the 7th Division, 31st Regiment, Company I, was Squad Leader on 50 caliber, and was stationed in both England and Korea. He worked for 30 years at Harrison Radiator Div of GM, retiring in 1984. Eugene was a member of the UAW Retirees Association and the Sunrise Optimist Club where he was past secretary. He was a life member of the South Lockport Fire Co where he was past Assistant Fire Chief, Niagara County Chief’s Association, and the Niagara County Fire Police Association. Eugene enjoyed playing both BINGO, cards, and Scrabble with his wife, working in his yard, bowling, and most importantly spending time with his wife, kids, and grandchildren.
Eugene is survived by his wife Concetta "Connie" (Turco) Oakes; children Clara (Steve) Marron, Frank (Michelle) Oakes, and Sam (Jill) Oakes; grandchildren Rich (Jenn) Wilkinson, Lindsay (Steve) Saraf, Jodi (Brandon) O’Brien, Adam (Ashley) Oakes, Haley (Jeffrey) Daigler, and Austin Oakes; great grandchildren Ethan & Emily Saraf, Jackson & Madelyn Oakes, Bianca Wilkinson, Tristan & Charlie O’Brien, and Kali & Elizabeth Daigler; siblings Dorothy Smallman and late James Oakes; several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, February 10th from 4-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, February 11th at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.
