Obituary of Kathleen Whalen

Kathleen “Kay” Whalen passed away October 27, 2022 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. Born September 29, 1931 in New York City, she was the daughter of Lloyd Connors and Molly McCall Rego. Kay was a Health and Physical Education Teacher teaching at various WNY schools for 28 years. She also served as a Director at the Dale Association until her retirement at age 80.  Kay was the former president of Meals on Wheels, Zonta, WNY Council on Aging, and former VP of College Women's Club, the NYS Conference on Aging, and Women's PE of WNY. She enjoyed spending time with her book and card club friends, in addition to regular casino visits.

Kay was predeceased by her husband Joseph “Joe” Whalen and daughter Sheila Ellen. She is survived by her children Martha (Jerry) LaPoint, Kathleen (Richard) Granchelli, John (late Debbie) Whalen, Joseph (Anne) Whalen, Steve (Margaret) Whalen, Mary (Thomas) Glenn, Jennifer (Dominic) Govenettio, 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, sister Eileen (Timothy) Dunn, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 3-7pm, at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 10 AM, in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. Interment will be at Cold Springs Cemetery.
