Obituary of Mary Horanberg

Mary E. (nee Thurston) Horanberg, 91, of Lockport passed away peacefully Thursday April 28, 2011, while at home surrounded by friends and family. She was born in Lockport, September 26, 1919 to Henry and Elizabeth (Conniff) Thurston.
She graduated from St. John's Grade School, and St. Mary's Academy in Lockport and worked at various jobs for her father such as selling tickets at the Thurston Theater on Walnut and Pine, later to be named the Temple then the Rialto and waiting tables at Thurston's Restaurant at 6 Lock Street. She also attended to various duties at the Skating rink, Pool hall, and Bowling Alley that her dad owned and operated, towards the late 1930's. Her father served as the Mayor of Lockport from 1934-35. Mary was a member of the Home Bureau Mothers Club and enjoyed knitting, crafts, working in her garden and playing bridge.
She was the youngest of seven children Ray, Donald, Howard, Ralph, John, William, who are all prededeceased.
Surviving along with her husband, Robert of 70 years, are her three children Guy (Patricia) Horanberg of Santa Clarita, Ca., Susan Gray of Lewiston and Karen (Dave) Karas of Glendale, Az. She is also survived by her granddaughters Lyndsay and Caryn and 3 great granddaughters.
Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 PM, in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, would be appreciated by the family.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport.

Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery.
