Please share a memory of Josephine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Josephine A. Pope age 90, peacefully went home to the Lord on Tuesday July 26, 2022 at her residence. Known to all as “Joanne”, she was a longtime resident of Lockport, NY with her late husband Niagara County New York State Assemblyman Gregory J.  Pope. They were married in 1951 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Lockport, NY. Together they raised their five children, Gregory (Susan) Pope of Williamsville, NY,  Cynthia (George) Williamson of Sparta, New Jersey, Paula (Timothy) Webster of Kenmore, NY, Richard (Susan) Pope of Lockport NY, and Juliana (Bernhard) Burkhardt of Clarence, NY. Joanne was born in Lockport, NY on March 19, 1932 the youngest of 10 girls in a family of 11 of the late Anthony and Anna (Carullo) Juliana. She is survived by one sibling Jean LaBello and predeceased by sisters Mary (Phil) LaRose, Camille (Thomas) Biondo, Louise (Samuel) Muscarella, Jenny (Angelo) Malacaro, Lena Juliana, Margaret (Pat) Hughart, Rose (Ted) Kirkpatrick, Pat (Daniel) Santangelo and a brother, Nicholas (Joanne) Juliana.

She was a graduate of Lockport Senior High (49’). After graduation she entered the Warzechia School of Design and thereafter operated a dressmaking and bridal design business until the birth of her children. She continued to pursue her love of the arts, oil painting, sewing, furniture refinishing and maintaining and decorating their large home. Home and family remained strong with her. Her home provided a workshop for her efforts in interior decorating. Later in life she obtained her real estate license and attended different art education classes.

In addition to managing her husband's campaigns, getting friends organized, making posters, calling and traveling throughout the district, Joanne served as a member or officer of various organizations: President of the local PTA, Women's political club, and Den Mother to the Boy Scouts of America. Home entertainment was popular where she would organize large gatherings.

She was a loving grandmother and is survived by her seven grandchildren, Nicole, Gregory, Kristina, John, Amanda, Noelle, Vittoria and Gabrielle and one great grandchild, Maya. She deeply appreciated the daily and faithful assistance of her home care aide, Carrie Maude.
