Obituary of Maryan Chapman
Maryan Patricia (Walters) Chapman passed away peacefully May 17, 2022 at the age of 95 years. She was surrounded by family and caring staff at Brothers of Mercy Nursing Facility. She was born on November 5, 1926 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of the late Lawrence “Larry” and Harriet (Parker) Walters.
Maryan worked at Simonds Saw & Steel until 1982 and was a secretary for Lockport BOE. She loved to sing at a young age. She was always in the church choir and would sing at home in the evenings while her mom practiced hymns on the piano. She was also part of the “Rozen Trio” (named after voice teacher Mrs. Rozen) with her two friends. Maryan was also in a musical group called the “Mello-Tones” and they recorded many singles. She was a member of the Glee Club with her husband John, they were also in the Emmanuel Methodist Choir where they were also members. Maryan loved going to the movies at a young age because her father worked at the Palace Theatre. She carried on the tradition with her grandchildren. Maryan was a talented seamstress and loved to sew and quilt.
Maryan loved to read, go to Bible Study, volunteer at many church events, and belonged to the Emmanuel Methodist Women. Her favorite memories were traveling across the USA in the Winnebago with her husband John to visit family and friends. They saw 48 states and made many friends along the way. Maryan lost her husband John G. Chapman on February 15, 2000.
Maryan is survived by her brother John “Jack” Berton Walters; daughter Kathie P. Sharp (Roland Smith), sons Michael J. Chapman (Melissa Oster) and Bruce L. (Rhana Watkins) Chapman; predeceased by son Gary Chapman and daughter Debra Chapman; grandchildren Jennifer (Collin) Robinson, Debora (Sean) Sharp Ellingson, Gregory J. (Daiana) Chapman, Alexandria (Camille) LeCaer, Kevin (Meagan) Chapman, Jeffrey (Alexandra) Chapman, and Rachel Chapman; great grandchildren Coral, Asher, Leia, Emile, and Piper; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Maryan also loved her church family, Bible Study friends, Breakfast Club friends, Card Club friends who she has missed dearly. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Private graveside services will be in Acacia Park Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Friday, June 17 at 11:00 am at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 75 East Ave., Lockport.
