Obituary of Atha M. Martin

Please share a memory of Atha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Just eleven days short of her one hundredth birthday, Atha Martin of Lockport passed away on Friday, March 4th at Buffalo General Hospital following a short illness.  Born in Middleport in 1922, she was the daughter of the later Mary and Grant Gursslin and sister to the late Bernice Barnard.

Atha married the late Irvin E. Martin and raised a family of four sons in Lockport.  she was employed for many years by Sears and Roebucks as a district Manager.

You could find Atha with a book in her hand or garden gloves and a trowel as reading and working in her garden were hobbies she loved.

In her later years, she devoted her time to the Foster Grandparents Program, aiding with child care at Happy Times Day Care, Madonna House and most recently as a class aide for Mr. Carlin, elementary school teacher at Charles Upson School.  She was sidelined due to the pandemic and was really looking forward to going back to school as soon as possible.

Mother to the late Gerald and Kenneth Martin, Atha leaves sons Douglas and Daniel (Tammey) as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, various other relatives and in-laws, as well as many, many children who helped make her life joyful.

Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Online condolences at www.pruddenandkandt.com.
