Obituary of Betty L. Birkmeyer
Betty Lou (Plant) Birkmeyer passed peacefully into rest February 4 at home surrounded by family. Born on November 29, 1931 in Buffalo, NY. she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Brooks. From the age of 2, she was raised by the late Carter and Isabelle Plant.
Betty is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Richard J. Birkmeyer. She is survived by daughters Linda Miller (Roger), Marcia Keller (Walt), Bonnie Birkmeyer; son, Rick Birkmeyer (Kim); grandchildren Eric, Christopher Scott, Cherie, Justin, Kyle, Adam, Sarah, Sabrina, Allan; 21 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who poured her love for Christ into children and teens through working in daycare and especially by initiating and coordinating the Alliance Bible Quizzing Program for 38 years. "Mrs. B" (as she was affectionately called) was honored with a public recognition of proclamation by Mayor Thomas Sullivan, naming April 8, 2000, as "Betty Birkmeyer Day" to commemorate her retirement from Quizzing.
Visitation will be Friday, February 11, from 4-7pm at Prudent and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Celebration of Life will be at Lockport Alliance church, 555 Davison Road, Lockport on Saturday, February 12 at 11:00 am. Betty will be laid to rest at the Cold Springs Cemetery in Lockport, NY following the service.
