Obituary of Dana Rising

Dana Lamar Rising of Lockport passed away April 2, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. He entered into rest in the comfort of the Hospice House in Lockport with close family there with him. Dana was born in Kenmore, NY on August 31, 1932, the son of Harold and Katherine (Broughto) Rising also of Lockport. He was a graduate of Lockport High School and upon graduation entered the US Army to serve his country in the Korean War. While in the Army he was a radio operator and a member of the Army baseball team. Dana played in the early 1950&amp;#39;s Army-Airforce US National championship baseball game played in Japan. He had a lifelong love of Japanese architecture after this visit. Dana was married to Betty {James) for over 50 years. He was a life long handy man, beginning early on while working with his father, Harold Rising, in his plastering business. Later Dana worked for Simonds Saw &amp; Steel in Lockport for 20 years. He also worked for Barden Homes in Middleport before retiring in 2003. He was an avid fan of playing baseball and continued that love all through his life, well into his 60s where he was playing with his son Randy on a local league for, Someplace Else. Other hobbies/things he enjoyed were deer hunting, bowling, antiques, flea markets, EBAY, ancestry research, playing cards, watching sports, reading Stephen King and spending time with his grand kids at their various school functions through the years. Dana also had a love of Pomeranians over his life, Benji and Abbey held a special spot in his heart. Husband of Betty (James) Rising; father of Cheryl (Noel) St Cyr of Lockport, Randy Rising of Lockport, Rhonda (Kevin) Haenle of Gasport; grandfather to Brittany &amp; Ian Rising of Lockport, Mallorie &amp; Nina Haenle of Gasport, Jamie Brady (Patrick) of Lockport, Todd &amp; Patrick McIntyre of Florida; great grandfather to Nicole &amp; Kelsey Brady of Lockport; brother to Jack (Sue) Rising of Lockport; brother in law to Cinnie {Bill) James, Judy (Pete) James, Ronnie (Don) James all of Lockport; also many nieces &amp; nephews. Dana was predeceased by his son Garry McIntyre, parents Harold and Katherine Rising, brothers in law William, Donald, Ralph "Pete" and Charles James. Relatives and Friends may call Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM in Prudden &amp; Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where funeral services will be held Friday at 1 PM.
