Obituary of Carol Lenhart

Carol Lenhart passed away on March 18, 2011 in the care and company of her children and grandchildren in The Villages Florida. Carol was born in Flint, MI to her late parents Cecil and Blanche Watts Blackstone. She moved to Pendelton, NY as a child, where she raised her family and spent most of the rest of her life. Carol moved to The Villages, FL in 2009 where she was cared for by members of her family, and especially by her granddaughter Briana and niece Stephanie. Carol is survived by her husband Burton Lenhart, children Kathy (Matt) Murnane, Elaine (Kevin) Tucker, Wayne (Cindy) Lenhart, Gary (Carrie) Lenhart. "Grandmoo" also is survived by her grandchildren Erika, Briana and Kelley Lenhart. She will be missed too by her niece Stephanie and nephew Brian Lenhart. She is also survived by her sister Shirley Jones. She was predeceased by her beloved son Billy, who died much too young, and two brothers. Carol was a founding member of the Barge Canal Optimist Club and served as its President. She was an avid quilter, talented crafter, a 4-H leader and a Navy veteran during WWII. She also served many years as committeeperson and member of the Pendleton Republican club. She was honored as the City of Lockport Veteran's day parade Grand Marshall in 2009 and was given an honorary lifetime membership in the Lockport Navy-Marine club. She also was honored by Optimist International for her contributions to the Optimist club. Carol enjoyed bowling into her 80's and was a champion horse shoe competitor. She assisted Burt in his business, Lenhart's TV and Appliances, and, after raising her family, she embarked on a successful venture selling Bernina sewing machines and teaching sewing classes as part of the business. Carol won a "Best Smile" contest when she was in the service, and that smile and her personality won friends wherever she went. She was a remarkable woman who lived life to the fullest and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Calling hours will be held at the Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home on Friday, April 1 from 4-7pm. A celebration of life will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, April 2 at 10:30 AM. There will be no graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 33162 or the Lockport Barge Canal Optimist Youth Fund. <h3>Visitation</h3> Calling hours will be held at the Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home on Friday, April 1 from 4-7pm. <h3>Services</h3> A celebration of life will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, April 2 at 10:30 AM.
