Obituary of Lucille Schuyler
Lucille Elizabeth Riddick Snowden Schuyler gained her wings, and transitioned from earth to glory on September 23, 2021, Thursday evening at the Absolut Care Nursing Home in Gasport, New York after an extended stay. Lucille E. Riddick-Schuyler, was born October 7th, 1927, in Princess Anne County, Virginia Beach, Virginia to the late Frank and Emma Riddick where she attended the public schools.
She met and married the late Walter C. Snowden, Sr. and to this union (6) children were born four (4) sons; Walter Jr., Boston Sr., the late Curtis Sr., and Milton R. Snowden, two (2) daughters Mary and Geraldine Snowden.
She worked many years at the Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia as a pastry cook. In 1966 she chose to join her sibling by relocating in Western New York, in search of a better way of life, and opportunities for their families. She worked as a pastry cook at the Apple Grove Inn, located in Medina, New York. She later met and married Gerald W. Schuyler and from that union they were blessed with a son Jackson Schuyler. She worked as a Correction Officer at the Albion Women’s Correctional Facility for a stint, and was later employed with Harrison Radiator in Lockport, N.Y. where she retired.
She joined the Episcopalian Church in Medina, N Y, under the leadership of Father Benjamin Moss, and later united with the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as President of the Usher Board, until her health began to fail her. She was always cooking and baking. She was very active in the community, served on Medina’s Youth Outreach Program to keep kids off the streets, Red Cross, President of Orleans/Niagara County NAACP organization, and was the first black female to become a member of the Professional Business Women’s Club of Orleans County (eventually their President).
She leaves to cherish her memories six (6) Children, Jackson (Beatriz) Schuyler of Fort Worth, Tx, Milton Snowden of Lockport, NY, Geraldine (Elder Walter) Amos of Franklin, TN, Boston (Barbara) Snowden Sr. of Eight Miles, Al, Walter (Dotress Nelson) Snowden Jr. of Lockport, NY and Mary (the late Abraham) Johnson of Medina, NY. Kathy Carrier Snowden of Welland, Ontario (Daughter-in-Law) Siblings, Virgia B. Phillips (sister) of Lockport, NY and James E. Riddick Sr. (brother) of Chicago, IL. Rosa Mae Snowden, and Gladys Johnson (sisters-in-laws), and a host of grandchildren, great-grands, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Predeceased in death Frank M. Riddick and Emma Jane Davis Riddick (parents), Gerald W. Schuyler (Spouse), Walter C. Snowden Sr. (Ex-spouse), Michael and Stephen Johnson (grandsons), Frank M. Riddick Sr., Clyde A. Riddick Sr., Mary E. Riddick-Roundtree, Apostle Dr. Vivian Riddick-Carr (siblings).
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday, October 2 from 11 AM – 12 Noon with services following at 12 Noon all in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Interment will be in Boxwood Cemetery, Medina. Visit pruddenandkandt.com.
