Obituary of Hilda F. Woody

Please share a memory of Hilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

A beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother Hilda F. Woody left this world unexpectedly on August 17, 2021, after a brief stay in FF Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua, NY.  Born July 14, 1934, in Toronto, Canada she was the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Gordon) Winn.  A lifelong citizen of Canada, Hilda married in 1955 and moved to Lockport, NY (United States). Hilda was predeceased by her husband, David Woody Jr. in 1990.

As a member of St. Matthias Church in Toronto, Canada, and a lifelong member of Grace Episcopal Church in Lockport, NY Hilda was passionate about her faith and the traditions of the Anglican Episcopal Church. She was faithful as a lay reader, a member of the vestry, a Crucifer and the Women’s Guild. Hilda retired from Harrison Radiator Div. of General Motors in Lockport where she was promoted through various secretarial levels until her retirement in 1984 as an Executive Secretary. After retirement Hilda found great joy in serving others in her community. As a volunteer at Lockport Memorial Hospital Hilda was recognized for her service, comradery, and the willingness to serve she brought to the volunteer team.

In 2005, Hilda moved to Victor, NY to begin another phase of her life with the love, care and support of her son Kevin, daughter-in-law Claire and grandchildren. Here she began building relationships with the care and service of Brighter Day Adult Services and was introduced to her beautiful friends and family at Legacy at the Fairways. At Legacy, her creativity came alive, and she became an expert knitter, arts and crafts connoisseur, puzzler and enjoyed BINGO and card games. Her joy of winning never ceased. Hilda also had another extended family at Eastview Dialysis Center in Victor where she was a patient receiving the best in care for15 years and built many loving relationships with the medical staff and patient families. During these years Hilda continued to hold her faith high and regularly attended worship services at Legacy Chapel under the auspices of Father Graf who she admired greatly.

Hilda is survived by her children David (Debra) Woody, III, Beatrice Woody, Kevin (Claire) Woody, Karen Woody, and Kimberly (Herman) Woody-Smith; grandchildren Alisia, Jordan, Kevin, Jr., David Justen, Mariah, Sean, Darnell, Jr., and Hermia; great granddaughter Gianna; siblings Cora, George, Richard, David, and predeceased by Ethel, Lorraine, Sylvia, and Fred; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
