Obituary of Geraldine M. Gambel
Geraldine Emery Gambel passed away on July 23, 2021, at the age of 88.
Geri was born on April 12, 1933, in Turkey City, Pennsylvania, as the daughter of the late Clifford and Mary Emery. She was the oldest of 7 siblings, which are listed as follows: the late Nora Alonge, the late Lucille Black, Clifford (Marilyn) Emery Jr., Betty Gilbert, Patricia Archer, and Kenneth (Bev) Emery.
Geri obtained 2 teaching degrees from Buffalo State College, one at the undergraduate level and then continuing her education, earning her Master of Education. She took a teaching position in the Barker Central School district where she taught for several years in the Home Economics Department. It is there she met and married the late Franklin Gambel. Together they had 3 children: Franklin (Mary K) Gambel Jr., Mark (Lynne) Gambel and Mary (Paul) Scheib. She has 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Frank and Geri shared a love of all things old and began a lifelong obsession of collecting at an early age. Their journey led them to opening the Open Door Antique Shop in Barker. Gerri was also known for her love of gardening and flowers. You would always find her barefoot working and digging in her beautiful gardens. She truly loved flower arranging and her house was never void of florist worthy arrangements.
Gerri’s family and close friends were her world while maintaining a close personal relationship with God.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday, August 1st from 1 to 5 pm at Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport where funeral services will be held on Monday, August 2nd at 10 am. Interment will be in the Hartland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Barker Fire Department or Somerset Historical Society in lieu of flowers.
