Obituary of Richard W. Hayden
Richard Hayden, 89, of Lockport passed away surrounded by his family on July 14, 2021 after a sudden illness. Born on Sept 6, 1931 “Dick” is predeceased by his parents, Raymond (Jumbo) and Margaret; his sister Karen (Hughes) and his brother John (Lynn), and niece Anita. He leaves his beloved wife Shirley of 65 years and their three children, Robert (Kathryn) Hayden, Thomas Hayden, Daniel (Cheri) Hayden and their two grandchildren Kyra and Sydney Hayden (Daniel). He is also survived by sister-in-law Arlene Sweet and nephew Richard (Sweet), and nieces Vicki (Gow) and Tammy (Hughes), Rachel (Ramirez), and nephew John Hayden.
Richard served in the US Navy onboard the USS Roanoke and worked for General Motors, retiring after 25 years at Harrison Radiator. Prior to that he was a painter and paper hanger with many of the homes in Lockport benefitting from his skills and quality workmanship. Richard spent many years as an active photo enthusiast in the Lockport camera club, and was an accomplished artist with many of his oil paintings and water colors hanging throughout Lockport and beyond. Dick was a member of the Lockport Art Guild and Elks Club, as well as the Dale Association. A lifelong devoted but frustrated Sabres and Bills fan, Dick also thoroughly enjoyed his card days with many, and in later years looked forward to Cribbage and Bid Pitch day at the Elks club and Senior Center with his fellow friends and competitors. He cherished his trips to the French River with his close friends, and loved spending time with his family, especially his 2 grandchildren.
Friends may call 4-7 PM Monday, July 19th at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street Lockport, NY with a service at Prudden and Kandt on Tuesday, July 20th at 10AM and inurnment immediately following at Cold Springs Cemetery, Lockport NY
