Obituary of Betty C. Cannon
Entered eternal life on May 21, 2021 after a brief illness. Born September 3, 1926 in Lockport, NY to Charles and Winifred Fife. Besides her parents, Betty was pre-deceased by her husband John in 1984, her sister Grace Fellows in 1996, her sister-in-law Ruth Cannon Sims in 2013 and her niece The Rev. Deacon Pete Dempesy Sims in 2017. She is survived by her children, MaryAnn Cannon Hawkes (Charles), Kathleen Cannon Polkalba and David Cannon (Debbie), one grandchild, Kristyne Hawkes, and three great-grandchildren, Eowyn, Jonathan and William. She is also survived by The Rev. Canon Cathy Dempesy-Sims and several other nieces and nephews.
Betty was a 20 year employee of the Food Service Department in the Lockport Schools, retiring as Head Cook in 1993. Besides her career in food service, Betty was a member of the Angelus Chapter #559 Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years. She served as treasurer until her death. She was District Deputy in 1985 and was a State Officer—Grand Warden in 2006. Betty was very active in the Niagara/Orleans District and was presented the Elizabeth Pounder Award in 2005. Betty was class president of the Class of 1944, Lockport High School Reunion Committee. She was also a long-time member of the Dale Association and enjoyed working Friday Night Bingo. She was devoted to her family and took great joy in her great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Friday May 28 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home 242 Genesee Street Lockport, NY. A funeral service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church (7145 Fieldcrest Dr Lockport, NY 14094) Saturday, May 29 at 10 am. Masks and social distancing will be required. Burial will be private.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Grand Chapter O.E.S Nursing Scholarship (Pounder Hall #106 1400 Utica St. Oriskany, NY 13424), Christ Episcopal Church (7145 Fieldcrest Dr. Lockport, NY 14094), The Dale Association (33 Ontario St. Lockport, NY 14094), or Niagara Hospice (4675 Sunset Dr. Lockport, NY 14094).
