Obituary of Ernest N. Way, III
Ernest N. Way, III of Lockport, NY died in his sleep on May 21, 2021, after a 2.5-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jane Lamphear Way, and two children, Alison Mary Way and Theodore Mather Way, Ph.D. Mr. Way is also survived by a sister, Lydia M. Way Donohue, of Bedford Hills, NY.
Known to his friends as Ernie, he was born in a car in Brooklyn in 1943. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, after which he joined the United States Peace Corps and served as a Volunteer in the Philippines for two years.
Ernie was employed by New York State as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, working at the Donovan Building in Buffalo, NY. He made lifelong friends there and kept in touch with many of them after his retirement. His final years were spent living with his wife in a wonderful home just outside the city of Lockport, located a half mile from the Erie Canal, where he spent many happy days canoeing and kayaking. He also enjoyed volunteering as a Lock Tender. His life was well lived and he will be dearly missed and remembered by all who knew him. He was an absolute joy to his family.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family.
