Obituary of Mary Alice Kern
Mary Alice Kern, 87, died on April 18, 2021 in her hometown of Lockport, NY. Born June 14, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Albert R. and Irene C. (Erle) Brady. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s School and St. Joseph’s Academy in Lockport.
Mary Alice was predeceased just ten weeks earlier by her husband of 67 years, Jerome J. Kern. They were married on September 19, 1953 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Lockport. Together they raised Paul, David, Jeanne, James and RoseAnn.
Mary Alice was a role model of the importance of faith, gratitude, hard work, unconditional love and forgiveness for her children and extended family. Many will remember Mary Alice for her attention to detail in her yard and gardens.
She is survived sons Paul (Debra) Kern, David (Roxanne) Kern and James (Debbie) Kern, all of Lockport, and daughters Jeanne Kern (Edward Oravec) of Vermont and RoseAnn (Craig) Haseley of Lockport; grandchildren Jeffrey, Adam, Aaron, Bridget, Kristina, Brian, MaryClaire and Sarah; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Jerome, her parents; her sisters, Dorothy and Helen; daughter-in-law Susan; and grandson Stephen.
Family would like to thank the staff and many wonderful people at Niagara Hospice who cared for Mary Alice.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, April 29th from 5-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 30th at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. Entombment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum.
