Obituary of Jerome J. Kern
Jerome J. Kern, 91, died on February 5, 2021 in his hometown of Lockport, NY. Born March 27, 1929, he was the son of Jacob and Lydia (Rosenberg) Kern. He married Mary Alice Brady on September 19, 1953 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Lockport. Together they raised Paul, David, Jeanne, James and RoseAnn. Many in the community will remember Jerome for his many years as first a salesman and later as Vice President of Jacob Kern & Sons, Inc. located on Nichols Street in Lockport. He was one of the first Eucharistic Ministers in Lockport, serving at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. He served as President of St. Mary’s Cemetery Association for 35 years and on the Glenwood Cemetery Board for many years.
He is survived by Mary Alice, his beloved wife of 67 years; sons Paul (Debra) Kern, David (Roxanne) Kern and James (Debbie) Kern, all of Lockport, and daughters Jeanne Kern (Edward Oravec) of Vermont and RoseAnn (Craig) Haseley of Lockport; grandchildren Jeffrey, Adam, Aaron, Bridget, Kristina, Brian, MaryClaire and Sarah; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Jacob, Mgsr. Walter, and Hubert; daughter-in-law Susan; and grandson Stephen. Family would like to thank the staff and many wonderful people at Elderwood of Lockport who cared for Jerome.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, February 11th from 5-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 12th at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o All Saints Roman Catholic Church, 76 Church St., Lockport or to a charity of choice. Cards of condolence to the family may be sent c/o Paul Kern at Jacob Kern & Sons, 56 Nichols Street, Lockport.
