Obituary of Milton M. Farley
Milton M. Farley of Ridgewood, NY
On Sunday, December 6, 2020, Milton went into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at Niagara Hospice, Lockport. Milt lived his 91 years in Ridgewood. Born the son of Frank J. and Laura (Morey) Farley, on March 12, 1929, Lockport, NY. He graduated from Newfane Central School with the class of 1946. In 1948, Milton began 4 years of service with the US National Guard Reserves, achieving the rank of Corporal E4. On November 12, 1955, Milton married the love of his life, Noreen (Stark) at the Ridgewood Union (Bible) Church. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
For many years, Milt worked with his dad, Frank, at Farley’s Cider & Vinegar Mill and the cherry processing business, in Ridgewood. Eventually, Milton purchased 300 acres of farmland, growing mostly cherries. After Frank retired, Milton continued receiving and processing cherries from area farmers, becoming the only processor left in New York State. In 2005, Milton decided it was time to stop growing cherries and focus on enjoying his retirement years.
Milton loved to drive almost anything but particularly favored tractor trailer trucks. In his early years, Milt drove for Miller Pickles and traveled often to Boston Mass. Obtaining his CDL license at age 16, Milton was proud to still have that license until the age of 90 when he surrendered his licenses.
Noted for his quick wit and fantastic memory, Milton will always be remembered for his amusing stories and reminiscences. People knew they could depend on Milt if they needed the name of someone or a date they couldn’t remember.
Milt helped several people realize their dream of home ownership, by holding mortgages and structuring payments they could easily afford.
Always an avid collector, Milt especially enjoyed his wrenches, John Deere toys, lanterns and old glass milk bottles.
Milt is survived by his loving wife, Noreen and 4 children, Suzanne (Robert) Adams, Kenneth, Kathleen (John) Smith and a caregiver daughter Joan Laura. Milton enjoyed his 8 grandchildren, Jillian (Eberlin), Garrett and Melissa Adams; Janene, Sarah (Chapman), and Mitchell Farley; Andrew and Richard Smith. Milt was proud to have 10 great grandchildren. Robert “Smitty” Smith has been a devoted family friend to Milt for many years.
There will be no prior visitation with burial being at Wright’s Corners Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements to be handled by Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, Inc.
