Obituary of Mary K. Hughes
Mary Kolb “Red” Hughes passed on November 21, 2020. Born December 27, 1930 in Lockport, NY, she was the daughter of the late Stirling William and Doris (Gillam) Kolb. Mary was married to her loving husband, Edward Hughes, in 1953. Mary was a registered nurse at Buffalo General Hospital, moving to Lockport Memorial Hospital, and retiring from Dr. H. Braden Fitz-Gerald's private practice in Lockport. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Hughes; her son, William Hughes; siblings, Marjorie Berigan and Stirling Kolb; and niece, Kristan Ellison.
Mary is survived by her children Edward (Kim) Hughes and Andrew (Darcee) Hughes; daughter-in-law, Debra Hughes; grandchildren, Andrea (Brian) Frazer, William (Jessica) Hughes, Thomas (Jessica) Hughes, Colin Hughes, Samantha Hughes, Kerry Hughes, Kelly Hughes, and Krysta (Shawn) Clark; great grandchildren, Brian and Ethan Frazer, Jackson and William Hughes, Braeden Hughes, Camille Hughes, Logan and Katelyn Herrick, and Emily Clark; sisters-in-law, Sandra Kolb and Catherine Hughes; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was an avid sports fan. She could often be found cheering on Duke basketball and Rafael Nadal playing tennis. She loved animals and took wonderful care of her cats. She was a lifelong active member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Mary loved swimming, reading, knitting, latchhook, and playing bridge with her club. Mary loved spending time with family, almost as much as they loved spending time with her.
