Obituary of William Kirsch
William “Bill” A. Kirsch passed away October 26, 2020. Born July 17, 1932 in Lockport, the son of Frank and Marie (Cooke) Kirsch. Bill was class president of the first graduating class at DeSales Catholic High School in 1950. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BS Degree in Civil Engineering, served as a pilot in the US Air Force, became a NYS Registered Professional Engineer, and worked for the family business H.C. Mapes Inc., then Harrison Radiator of GM, where he was Manager of Plant & Environmental Engineering and Maintenance.
Bill was a member of St. John The Baptist RC Church where he was a Church Trustee, serving on many committees, including Chairman of the Building Committee in 1970. As well as being a Knight of Columbus, he was awarded the St. Joseph The Worker Award, and was an inductee of the DeSales Distinguished Hall of Fame.
An active member of the Lockport community, Bill was Chairman of the WNY Construction User’s Council, Vice President of the Eastern Niagara Chamber of Commerce, President of the DeSales Boosters, Chairman of the Lewiston Trail Council Boy Scouts of America Cub Scouts, member of the Lockport Planning & Zoning Board, and served on the Board of Directors for Glenwood Cemetery and Wyndham Lawn Home for Children.
An avid golfer and member of Oak Run Golf Course, he was also widely known as a University of Notre Dame Superfan.
Bill is survived by his wife Margaret (Judge) Danna Kirsch and predeceased by his wife Mary Ann (Langton) Kirsch. Also survived by his children Thomas (Margaret) Kirsch, Daniel (MaryKay) Kirsch, Andrew (Nancy) Kirsch, and Julie (Daniel Costello); eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, step-son Mark R. Danna, five step-grandchildren, and six step-great grandchildren. Also predeceasing Bill and held close to heart in precious memory are grandchild Rachel Kirsch and step-son Jon F. Danna.
Private services were held for the family in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home. A public memorial Mass will be announced at a later date in St. John the Baptist RC Church.
