Obituary of Valentine Bermel

Valentine J. Bermel passed away October 5, 2020 in Niagara Hospice House.  Born September 17, 1928 in Buffalo he was the son of the late Valentine and Violet (Prew) Bermel and the late Anna (Mydzian) Bermel.  Val served in the US Army from 1951 to 1952 during the Korean War.  He started working at Lockport Pattern Works, then moved onto Dussault Foundry and retired in 1990 from General Motors Power Train in Tonawanda after working for 24 years as a pattern maker.  Val was a member of the Elk’s Lodge which supported the Camp Happy Day’s at Camp Kenan.  He enjoyed golfing, serving as the organist for St. Joseph’s RC Church, and especially loved to spend time with his family.  He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Bermel on July 2, 2006.

Val is survived by his children Michael Bermel and Lynn Bicker; grandsons Shane M. Hatch and Michael Bermel, Jr.; siblings Mary Ann Ash, and late Milton and Peter Bermel; also several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, Oct. 8th from 4-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.  Private services will be held.  Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.  In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Niagara Hospice or the American Heart Association would be appreciated by the family.  Visit pruddenandkandt.com.
