Obituary of Joyce Carol Kindt
Joyce C. Kindt passed away suddenly at home on July 31, 2020. Joyce was born on October 2,1938 in North Tonawanda, NY to Rev. Karl M. and Nora (Houck) Kindt.
Joyce was a dedicated educator and taught 1st grade at Starpoint Central School for 30 years. She retired in1993 and purchased Shelley’s Posey Shoppe. There she pursued her passion for floral design, spending many years doing what she loved until she sold the business to travel and pursue other interests.
Joyce was an active life-long member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of Wendelville (including being the co-chairman of the historical celebration) where her father was the Pastor Emeritus from1931 to 1975. In 1972, Joyce wanted to serve God in a special way and joined the Covenant Players. The mission of Covenant Players is “to communicate the Lord Jesus Christ through the medium of drama”. As a troupe actress, Joyce helped present original Christian-themed plays to schools, churches, and community organizations across the United States.
A talented artist, Joyce used many different media to express herself. Her original design was selected to become the logo for the Town of Pendleton and is seen on the town signs to this day. She was also a gifted photographer, publishing a book, The Barns of Pendleton: Photographs of Pendleton Barns 1998 that showcased many of the historical barns of Pendleton.
Joyce was an avid bridge player and traveler. She was very proud of being a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League since 1998. Throughout her years, she explored many areas of the United States and countries of Europe.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Karl M. Kindt II, her sisters, Ruth (Edwin) Gust and Doris (Robert) Kramer. She is survived by Doris’ husband, Robert and many nieces and nephews: Karl M. Kindt III, David Gust (Amy), Steven (Cindi Barraclough) Gust, Christine (John) Greco, Michael (Lori) Kramer, Barbara (Paul) Mocarski, Patty Kramer and Jeffrey Kramer. She is also survived by 14 great nephews and nieces and 16 great-great nephews and nieces as well as her life-long friends Ann Johnson, Beverly Spencer, Shirley Lindemann and Barbara Clare.
Services will be held for family members only due to the restrictions of COVID-19. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date held at St. Paul’s UCC. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent to St Paul’s UCC of Wendelville, 7416 Campbell Blvd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120 or to the charity of your choice.
