Gregory C. Eckert passed away peacefully on April 16, 2020 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a lengthy and difficult hospitalization. Born May 23, 1952, Greg was a life-long Lockport resident. He attended Paul Smith's College and Edinboro University. He worked as a Waste Water Treatment Plant operator for the City of Lockport for 37 years, retiring in 2012. Greg was an avid reader and outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, camping, birdwatching, and traveling. His favorite spots were the family camp in the Southern Tier, and the Outer Banks, NC. Greg was a racing enthusiast and also enjoyed classic cars, especially his 1970 refurbished Ford Mustang. Pets held a special place in his heart, and he thoroughly enjoyed spoiling them. Greg was predeceased by his parents Arthur Eckert and Marilyn Chase. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 43 years, Sharon (Reger) Eckert; children Jonathan (Sara) Eckert and Elizabeth (Vincent) Riddle; sister Gail (Gary) Sherman; sisters-in-law Linda (late H. Douglas) Conlin and Marilyn Reger; also several nieces and nephews, great nieces and a great nephew. He was a cherished Papa to his grandsons Colton and Jackson Eckert. Funeral services will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for friends and family to come together. Interment will be in Cold Springs Cemetery.
