Obituary of John D. Randolph
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On March 3rd, 2020, John D. Randolph left this world on the wings of angels to his heavenly home; to spend eternity with Jesus Christ his Savior. He lost a courageous battle with diabetes and cancer while under hospice care. He was born along with his twin brother on July 9, 1937 at Lockport Hospital, the sons of the late Herbert S. and Anna (Trinka) Randolph. John leaves behind his loving and caring wife of 60 years, Virginia (Wheaton) Randolph; three children Wenda (Craig) Wagner of Lockport, Heidi (John) Ziegler of Hatfield, PA, and Craig (Lisa) Randolph of Newfane; four grandsons Nicholas (Emily) Wagner of Alaska, Phillip (Erin, fiancé) Wagner of Buffalo, Christopher and Colin Randolph both of Newfane; siblings twin brother James (Shirley) Randolph and Gary (Brenda) Randolph; several nieces and nephews; in-laws Robert and Audrey (Wheaton) Miller. He was predeceased by a brother Roger (Linda) Randolph and niece Lisa Jean Randolph.
John was a graduate of Lockport Senior High School class of 1955 (last class in the old high school). He was a member of the concert and marching bands. He then joined the US Army to attend carpenter school after basic training. Following school, he was shipped to Camp Casey in South Korea for 15 months, which was the last major army base before the D.M.Z. He was discharged from Fort Belvair, VA in 1958 with the rank of SP 3rd Class Combat Engineers.
John was employed as a cabinet maker for Gasport Wood Products for 60 years, retiring in October 2018, following the closing of the business. He was a 55 years member and past master of Red Jacket Lodge #646 F & AM and an active member of former F.13.C of Lockport. He especially enjoyed spending time with his four grandsons, while growing up, mainly at his work bench learning to read a ruler and creating “wonders in wood” while learning to use small hand tools (drilling, sawing, and hammering many bird houses). John and his wife enjoyed many weekends and vacation time traveling throughout NY State, Pennsylvania, and Ohio antiquing and finding many treasured collectables. The “Tattered Tulip” gave them an opportunity to share with others their many special gifts.
