Bruce L Bowman of Lockport, died Sunday March 1, 2020 peacefully in his sleep while at ECMC. Bruce is the son of the late Rev Leland Bowman, and Melva Bowman also of Lockport. He is a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. Bruce was born on August 29, 1954, in Saranac Lake, NY. His parents Lee and Melva were on a camping trip, and Bruce came six weeks premature. Over the course of his early life, Bruce attended school in several places; Avon, NY, Albion, NY, Alden, NY, and finally graduated in 1972 from Newfane Central School. After graduating from high school, Bruce attended Adrian College in Adrian Michigan and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. While attending there, Bruce joined the PKA fraternity, and lived at their off campus location. In 1978, Bruce began working for Harrison Radiator (GM), and worked in production there until he became a journeyman electrician and moved to skilled trades. When asked to describe his job to others, he would say that he was a troubleshooter. He retired in 2006, at the age of 51, after 28 years of service at Harrison Delphi. Bruce had many hobbies and interests. He learned to play the bagpipes and joined the Caledonian Pipe Band of Buffalo, where he played for many years. In the late 80's he took up fly fishing and fished in many places in New York, Pennsylvania, Montana, and also in Canada. Of special interest to him were the limestone springs of Central Pennsylvania, where he took many camping and fishing adventures. He also fished in Yellowstone National Park. After retiring Bruce also took the Ride With Pride basic motorcycling course and got his motorcycle license. This was followed by purchasing his motorcycle, which he enjoyed riding for many years. Of note were trips to the 1000 Islands, and also the 9/11 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Bruce was preceded in death by his father, Rev Leland Bowman of Lockport in 2017. He is survived by his mother Mrs. Melva Bowman also of Lockport.
