Obituary of Stephen J. Dowd

Stephen J. Dowd passed away peacefully on February 27, 2020 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Born September 4, 1947 to Nicholas and Dolores Dowd, Steve was a lifelong resident of Lockport, attending local schools and graduating from Lockport High School in 1965. He enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Seoul, South Korea and Ethiopia working in communications. Steve retired from Aero Instruments and Avionics, Inc. where he worked on electronic technology. Stephen’s children and grandchildren were a source of great pride and happiness to him. He treasured each and every visit with them. Always an avid reader, his favorite topics were history and politics, which provided many spirited discussions with friends and family. Stephen also studied and mastered two languages, Russian and German. He enjoyed working on older cars and electronics of any sort, taking great pleasure in solving a problem. Steve always enjoyed creating delicious food, never shying away from an extra pinch of salt, cream, or butter. A master in the kitchen, holidays were especially festive when he brought his home made mincemeat pie to dinner. Steve is survived by his children, Stephen John Jr. and Matthew Russell Dowd, siblings Diane (Stan) Harzewski, Christine (Todd) Schwartz, Jeanine (Mark) Grosso, grandchildren Tyler Jordan, Madeline Grace and Corbin Nicholas Dowd, many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as dear friends Linda and Kenny. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Dolores Dowd, and brother Nicholas (Darlene) Dowd. Services will be held at a later date.
