Obituary of Alice A. Oates

Alice A. Oates passed away on February 24 in Niagara Hospice House surrounded by her loving family after a short illness. She was born on July 24, 1928 in Lockport, NY a daughter of Stephen and Mary (Kostick) Keryk. Alice's first job was at the Lockport Exchange Bank where she was a General Bookkeeper. While raising two children she was often in Leo Le Bar's Jewelry store where her husband worked as the watchmaker. Alice and Louie opened Oates Jewelers in Lockport were they welcomed customers for several years. Alice enjoyed gardening, the ocean, housekeeping, a good fish fry, and playing the penny slot machines. She and Louie were often seen taking daily walks in Lockport. Alice was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Raymond “Louie” Oates and brothers Stephen, John, and Frank Keryk. Alice is survived by her children Richard (Wendy) Oates and Diane Oates; grandchildren Richard Oates, Jr. and Jessica Oates. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, Feb. 27th from 1-3 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, Feb. 28th at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport. Donations to Niagara Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
