Obituary of Edith Brown

Edith H. Brown passed away January 1, 2011. She was born on Willow Street on August 28, 1917, the youngest daughter of Joseph H. and Ella (Seelow) Volschow. Her husband and life partner, the late Edmund H. "Babe" Brown died in 1977 and was the Vice Chairman of the New York Power Authority and New York State delegate to the Great Lakes Commission. Edie and Babe had the opportunity to host Presidents and dignitaries from all over the world who came to visit the Niagara Power project and Niagara Falls. She was an avid golfer and won the Women's Championship at the Lockport Town & CC 9 times. She loved gardening and took great pride in her flowers and yard. Edith did a lot of craft work and taught for local Senior Citizen groups. She became well known for her hand made Teddy Bears and designed safe toys for small children. Earlier, during and after World War II, she joined the Red Cross Motor Corps as a volunteer, working on the blood bank, making bandages for overseas, fund raising and helping at the Veterans Hospitals in Buffalo and Batavia. She was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church. Edith is survived by a son Richard.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Edith H. Brown will be held January 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church Street Lockport, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend and a reception will be held at the Church immediately following the service.
