Obituary of Diane Smith

Diane Helbling Smith passed away peacefully under the care of Niagara Hospice surrounded by her family December 27, 2010. Born April 20, 1934 in Lockport she was the daughter of J. Kenneth and Lucille (Layer) Helbling. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Patrick's Grammar School and a 1951 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy. Diane attended Sister's Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of The Home Bureau, St. Patrick's Altar &amp; Rosary Society and an active member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians for many years. Diane worked for Conway-Miller and Northeast Dry Cleaners, Lockport. She married Joseph D. Smith in 1952, he predeceased her in 1999. Diane is survived by her children David K. Smith, Donna S. (Eric) Foltz, Douglas J. (Karen) Smith, Darlene M. (James) Dempsey, Deanne E. (Mike "Edgar") Lang, Danelle P. McCanna and the late Debra A. Solada; grandmother of fifteen and great grandmother of two; sister of Julius (Theresa) Helbling and the late Joan K. (late, Theron) Main and the late Fay E. Huntington; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Tuesday 7-9 PM and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where prayers will be offered Thursday at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in All Saints Parish at St. Patrick's Church, 76 Church St., Lockport.
