Obituary of Katherine M. Destito
Katherine M. Destito passed away prayerfully and peacefully to be with our Lord on July 17, 2019. She was born on May 18, 1937 in Lockport, daughter of Raffaele and Rosa (Silvaggio) Destito, both from Cenadi, Reggio di Calabria, Italy. Katherine attended St. Joseph’s Academy and proudly worked for Lockport Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper for 43 years. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church serving as a Eucharist Minister. Katherine loved saying the rosary, taking pictures at family events and socializing with friends and family. She cherished her Italian heritage and growing up and residing in the West End. Her friends meant the world to her, particularly her next door neighbor, Cleonicia (Nicia) Tocco, who brought her dinner every Sunday. She enjoyed cheering for the Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills, watching as many games as she could. Katherine is survived by her siblings Rose States from Lockport, NY, Joseph (Ida) Destito from St. Louis, MO, Lila Destito, her sister-in- law from Carrollton, GA, and nieces and nephews Charles (Gloria) States, Butch States, Bob (Stephanie) States, Sandra (Bob) Brechue, John Destito (Eddie Pyrtle), Annette (Mark) Murphy, Joe (Le Anne) Destito, Ralph (Marie) Destito, Fanny (Ben) Kunes, Rose (Dan) Brown, and JoAnne (Tom) Westcott, and many great-nieces and nephews. Katherine was predeceased by her brother Vito Destito, nephew John States, and great-nephew Michael States.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday, July 26th from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 27th at 10:00 AM in St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
