Dear Diane and family, you all have my dearest sympathy. I'm sorry to have been out of town and having to send my condolences this way. Dave was a great friend and spiritual leader. He was always supportive of me in the folk group and made me feel so welcomed and gave me a sense of belonging at St Mary's. I am honored to have known him. I'm sure God welcomed Dave with opened arms.

I will miss Dave and not simply because of the decades we spent together at The Buffalo News. He was a good man, a guy you knew right off the bat was as genuine and sincere as they come. I also remember the songs he wrote on behalf of the Buffalo Newspaper Guild and the not so subtle bite of his lyrics. Boy, he made me laugh. Good bye my friend.

Because I was a member of the choir at St Mary’s I knew him well. We were all like family. On occasion I sang with his folk group. He was such a kind and gentle man. I am so sorry for your loss . I will keep your family and him in my prayers.

I've met many fine people in 43 years as a Buffalo News reporter, Dave was among the funniest and kindest. We worked on some very difficult stories together during his days as religion reporter, but his great sense of humor always got us through. I wish only the best to Dave's long-time friends and family members....Dan Herbeck

Dave was a wonderful colleague and friend. I remember I was driving on the I 190 to work one morning when I got a flat tire. Dave had seen me as he drove by, got off the Thruway and doubled back to help. He was the best. Jean Westmoore

I met Dave when I first started my journalism career in 1967 at the Union Sun & Journal. What a fine reporter and even finer gentleman. I learned a lot about the craft of reporting by observing how Dave did it. He was always kind enough to give the cub reporter some tips. Years later - 1990 - we met up again at the Buffalo News. I admired him and loved his sense of humor. Greatly saddened by his passing. Bless his soul.

Here at The Buffalo News, where Dave worked for years, many of us this morning are sharing Dave Condren stories. Dave was loved at The News. I was just telling colleagues some of my favorite Dave Condren stories, like when I came into work one day and he was so excited to tell me about the wonderful present he was getting Diane for Christmas. A vacuum. A vacuum, I remember asking in disbelief. So unromantic. But Dave insisted it was the best present ever. And now that I'm much older than I was when that conversation occurred some 30 years ago, I think I might agree with him.
It was around that time, before I had any kids of my own, that I recognized from just talking with Dave at work how close his family was. It seemed to me that Dave's children got along better than most siblings I had known. I remember asking Dave how he and Diane were able to raise kids who seemed to get along so well. He told me that he and Diane would tell the kids how lucky they all were to have each other, and that they should be nice to each other. I never forgot that, and when I had my own children, that's what I told them also. It works. Thanks Dave.
