Ida Marie (Marotta) Scalzo, 94, of Lockport, NY, passed away peacefully under the care of Niagara Hospice and her children and grandchildren. Born in Lockport June 6, 1916, she was the daughter ofthe late John and Rosaria (Villella) Marotta. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ida Marie attended DeWitt Clinton School and graduated from LHS in 1934. She received her degree in Food Administration majoring in Hospital Dietetics from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1937. After graduating from RIT, she interned at Genesee Hospital in Rochester and then served as assistant dietitian at Homer Folks Hospital in Oneonta and at the Niagara Sanatorium. During WWII she was appointed as head dietitian at Lockport Memorial Hospital. On December 27, 1945, Ida married the love of her life Dr. Anthony J. Scalzo, a local dentist who predeceased her on March 31, 2001. Ida Marie and Doc celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1995. A life-long parishioner of St. Joseph&amp;#39;s Church in Lockport, Ida Marie served her church with dedication. She was a daily communicant, lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Church Historian. She taught religious education- for over 10 years and was a two term President of the St. Joseph&amp;#39;s Altar and Rosary Society. As a member ofthe Ladies of Charity, she was appointed city chairman of the Lockport units. In April 1972, Ida Marie was honored with the prestigious Lay Award of Saint Joseph the Worker by Bishop James McNulty. At DeSales High School she served as President of the Mother&amp;#39;s Club and was a promoter of the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales for over 50 years. With Dr. Scalzo she was awarded the DeSales Medal for selfless service to DeSales High School. In 1967 she became a member of the LMH Guild. During her tenure with the Guild, she held various officer positions and volunteered in the gift shop for over 35 years. She was also a member ofthe Dale Association where she performed volunteer service. Ida Marie was a member of the Chicago International Graphoanalysis Society. As a certified graphoanalyst, she was an expert in handwriting analysis. Ida Marie will always be remembered as an amazing cook. As one entered her house, you could always find Ida in her kitchen lovingly preparing one of her favorite recipes for her family and friends. She took great pleasure in giving out homemade Christmas cookies and her famous canoli to her friends and relatives. During the summer and fall&amp;quot; she took delight in canning and freezing fruits and vegetables with Doc at her side. She treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild who enriched her life. Other hobbies included crafts, crocheting, reading, solving crossword puzzles, gardening and dancing the Tarantella. Ida Marie is survived by three sons, F. Michael (Maureen) Scalzo, Richard J. (Gillian) Scalzo, Robert A. Scalzo and one daughter, Marea A. (Larry) Eggert; her grandchildren Sara E. Scalzo, Michele (Nicholas) Masterpole, Angela (Richard) Elia, Michael C. Scalzo, Lauren T. Scalzo, Joseph A. Scalzo, Meredith A. Eggert, Thomas B. Eggert, and one great grandchild Nicholas Elia. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Helen Fulmer and Louise Scalzo, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Anthony, Ralph, and Salvatore Marotta, and one sister Emma Jane Peca. Relatives and friends may call Monday 7-9 PM and Tuesday 3-7 PM in Prudden &amp; Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 AM in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 391 Market St., Lockport. Interment will be in St. Patrick&amp;#39;s Cemetery.
