Obituary of Loretta C. Veltman
Loretta Veltman, 97, a retired teacher passed away February 24, 2019 in Elderwood at Lockport. Born in Grand Rapids, MI January 21, 1922 she was the daughter of Richard Wallace Culver and Lucy Turner Culver. She graduated from Michigan State College as an Art teacher. In 1945 she married her high school sweetheart, Orval C. Veltman. After living in Michigan and California they moved to Lockport and had two sons, Bruce and Mark. Loretta then did graduate work at the University of Buffalo where she majored in early Childhood Education. Mrs. Veltman taught third grade at Washington Hunt Elementary School for 30 years retiring July 1, 1986. She was given an honorary life membership in the schools PTA at that time. Following her career she taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church where she was a member. Other affiliations include both local and state Retired Teacher Associations, Lockport Camera Club, and the PEO Sisterhood. Mrs. Veltman enjoyed books and was taking courses in writing children’s literature in West Redding, CT receiving two more diplomas. She enjoyed two trips around the world with her husband, Mr. Orval Veltman having the greatest thrill of her life when meeting and talking with Mother Theresa in Calcutta, India.
Mrs. Veltman is survived by two sons, Bruce and Mark (Sandra); grandchildren Timothy, Karen Ann, Mary Elizabeth, Kristin, and Cherie.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, March 1st from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in Prudden & Kandt funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport.
