Dr. Susan Wellington-Carney Obituary
Dr. Susan G. Wellington-Carney of Lockport passed away August 4,2009 in Buffalo General Hospital. Born April 5, 1949 in Lincoln, Nebraska the daughter of Willard Gaeddert and the late Laura Coss Gaeddert. Dr. Carney retired from New York State. She earned her doctoral degree from New York University. She taught at New York University, State University of New York Oswego, and Niagara County Community College. She was a preeminent scholar of literature and rhetoric, writing numerous publications and articles.
Dr. Carney served on several boards including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mayflower Society, and others. Her memberships included New York University President's Club, the Lockport Town and Country Club, and various others. She also provided significant time and effort for the enhancement of underprivileged persons.
Survivors include her husband William E. Carney Jr., father Willard Gaeddert, and two brothers David A. Gaeddert and William P. Gaeddert.
Friends may call 4 to 9 PM Friday and Saturday at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St in Lockport, NY. Burial services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Fredonia, NY at 1:00 PM Sunday.
