Robert "Bob" W. LaForest, 75 of Lockport entered into Heaven on October 30, 2010 after a courageous journey. Bob was born on March 16,1935 at Lockport City Hospital. He was the son of Hector and Marion Burke LaForest. He graduated from DeSales Catholic High School in 1953. Bob worked at several local businesses including Bell Aircraft, Frontier Stone, Simonds Saw and Steel and Harrison Radiator Div. of G. M. He served with the 13th Infantry Division in the Army as a Medic. He was stationed in Ulm, Germany. Upon his return to Lockport, joined the Lockport Police Department in 1960 as a patrolman and retired after 40 years of service as a Detective Lieutenant on March 24, 2000. He was a member of Klub 60 where he served as Treasurer for 24 years. Bob maintained a part time painting Business for over 40 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Lockport. One of the most important achievements in his life was the love for his family. One of his passions was photography; he left a legacy of love with pictures of their lives together. He also was a collector of eagles, coins and police memorabilia. Bob was the beloved husband of Carol Muckelberg LaForest of 51 years. They had three wonderful children; Lisa A. (Samuel) Burruano, Michael J. (Michelle A. Freeman) LaForest and Julie M. (Dwayne A. Schmitt) LaForest; two very special granddaughters Kayla Anne and Madison Grace. Bob was also the brother of Suzanne C. LaForest of Buffalo and the late Gerald M. LaForest. Bob was a devoted husband and wonderful father and a very special grandfather. His loss will leave an emptiness in many hearts. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday November 3RD, 2010 3 to 7 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport where prayers will be offered Thursday morning, November 4, 2010 at 9:30 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o'clock in St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. Being a 1953 graduate of DeSales as well as his two granddaughters Kayla, Class of 2010 and Madison, Class of 2016 the family would appreciate memorials to DeSales Catholic School, 6914 Chestnut Ridge Road, Lockport,NY 14094 in Bob's memory.
