Obituary of Mary I. Condon
Mary Irmina (Regan) Condon passed away at Elderwood of Lockport on Sunday July, 15, 2018, after a long illness. She was born in Salamanca, NY on October 19, 1927 and was the daughter of the late Helen (McCarthy) Regan and Michael Henry Regan. She moved to Lockport with her family in 1934.
Mary attended St. John’s Elementary School, Emmet Belknap and Lockport High School, graduating in 1945. She graduated from D’Youville College in 1949. Then she attended Syracuse University, receiving a Master’s Degree in Information Studies. She returned to Lockport and worked at the Buffalo Public Library for 10 years as a department head. After marriage and birth of her 6 children, she returned to work at the Lockport Public Library for 25 years. While there she was in charge of the Reference Department. She organized a Union for the Lockport Library workers and was President of the Union until retiring in 1996. Her children and grandchildren were her love and joy. She also enjoyed traveling, music, reading, knitting and sewing.
She is predeceased by her husband James E. Condon, who passed away December 18, 2014, her brother and sister in-law, Dr. Thomas (Donna) Regan.
Mary is survived by her 6 children, Katherine (Richard) Cavallaro, James M. Condon, Dorothy (Douglas) Szpaicher, Edward (Beverly) Condon, Teresa (John) Slobodzian and Patricia (Roy) Bright; grandmother of Megan and Thomas Frew, Jennifer and Jessica Bright, Holly and John Slobodzian, and Kaylea, Brandi and Jacki Condon. Mary is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Family of Mary, wishes to express a very special Thank-You to all the Staff at Odd Fellows, now Elderwoood of Lockport, that have provided Mary with amazing care through the final years of her Life.
There will be no prior visitation. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday July 19th, at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist RC Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport.
