I had the great pleasure of meeting Burt when he and my mother Anne became friends working together at the St. Vincent DePaul center. Upon my first introduction to Bert, I knew instantly that he was a wonderful man filled with kindness and grace. Bert became a dear friend to my mother and the two of them spent countless hours doing little projects together, from school projects, to home improvement project the two of them were unstoppable. Most of all however, we all just really enjoyed Bert’s company, he was truly a great person. Bert quickly became a member of our family and was always present to share in holidays and celebrations. I am filled with a sense of extreme loss for Burt's family, my family and especially my mother who lost a best friend. My hope is that all those who were impacted by Bert's pure sprit, honesty and uncompromised generosity will embrace his example and live their lives accordingly.

Doug, Jeannett, Ken, June I had no idea this happened. I am sorry I missed it in the paper. What a loving soul and yes, that Manning humor that is so much a part of all your lives! I first met Burt when he applied to NCC College several years ago and was having health issues. Somehow from that day forth, we connected on a human level and he has been a welcome "interruption" even during the busiest, most hectic of times. Burt had an uncanny ability to see through the nonsense one encounters in a college or work setting and turn it into a comedy show. I will miss my laughing breaks with Burt. I am blessed to have been able to spend many brief moments of fun with him.

Bucko, I'm so sorry I will never get to speak with you or get to have another jam session together again. You were like a brother to me. I just found out you passed at 7 PM 8/26/2012 almost 3 years after your death. I Google searched your name trying to find your number, what a loss, I'm devastated. I tried to call Doug but can’t find his number either. I’ve been looking at all those pictures of us when we lived together in San Diego. I remember all those days playing guitar when we were kids. Man I wish we would have stayed in touch. Happy trails my friend, I’ll see you on the other side.
