Obituary of John O'Malley

John R. O'Malley passed away September 30, 2010 under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born December 15, 1924 in Lockport he was the son of Rowland V. and Loraine (Connor) O'Malley. John graduated from Lockport High School and attended Georgetown University. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 during WW II. While in service he earned the American Theatre Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Purple Heart. John worked for Ford Agencies as Parts Manager for approximately 40 years retiring from the City of Lockport. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and a life member of the American Legion B. Leo Dolan Post 410. John was an avid golfer so much so that he was the LTCC Champion from 1955-1958, was the first president of Chestnut Meadows Golf Club where he was champion in 1962 and with Ray Brooks started the Rowland V. O'Malley Invitational in 1966. John was predeceased by his wife Mary Ann (O'Hara) O'Malley in 2008. John is survived by his children Michael (Sandie) O'Malley of Cumberland, MD, Patrick (Colleen) O'Malley of Niagara Falls, Rowland (Rosemarie) O'Malley, Maureen (Michael) Landers both of Lockport, Eileen O'Malley of Montana, Mary Ann (Scott) Kiner of Arizona and the late Terrance O'Malley; father-in-law of Elizabeth O'Malley: grandfather of Megan O'Malley, Camille O'Malley, Nicholas (Jessica) Landers, Rachel (James) Malone, William (Sandy) Hunting, Alex Wagner, Danielle Primerano, Daniel (Danielle) O'Brien, Kelsey Landers, Thomas Landers, Jasmine Juliana and Kristilyn Juliana; great grandfather of Aidan O'Brien, Zane Primerano, Mackenzie Landers, Cassidy Landers, Shay Dean, Jacob Hunting and Zachary Hunting; brother of the late William O'Malley and Mary Ruth O'Malley; several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Monday at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 168 Chestnut Street, Lockport. Entombment will be in Glenwood Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 would be appreciated.
