Obituary of Mildred Goodenough Burns

Mildred E. (Goodenough) Burns, 83, passed away at home with her loving family by her side and with the loving care of Niagara Hospice. Wife of Eugene J. Burns for 54 years who predeceased her in 2001; devoted mother of Howard E. Burns, Patricia L. Burns, Paulette Cochrane and Gary A. Burns. Also survived by her loving grandchildren Jeffrey J. Burns (Connie), Allison B. Pierce (Sterling), Michael D. Cochrane, Caitlin B. Matikosh (Michael), Michelle Burns, Brian Burns and Angela Burns; and six great grandchildren; sister of Robert (Janice) Goodenough, Ray (Carol) Goodenough and the late Howard Goodenough; several nieces and nephews. Also survived by her good friends, known as dear "daughters " Roseanne Brogan and family and Jan Voelker and her son-in-law Gary Cochrane. Mildred enjoyed her life as a homemaker and as a volunteer in the community. Active member of PTA, Girl Scouts, Tri Town Ambulance and board member of the American Cancer Society. She became a Neighborhood Service Director with Niagara County Council of Girl Scouts for 20 years. Mildred also was directed the Zoar Valley Girl Scout Camp for 18 years. She was known as "Speedy" by many due to her ability to "get things done." During her retirement years Mildred and her husband would winter in Florida. They enjoyed the road trips and all the detours along the way. Mildred will be sadly missed yet remembered fondly by many family and friends. Relatives and friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM in Prudden &amp; Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 AM. Interment will be in Cold Spring Cemetery. Memorials to honor Mildred's life may be made to Niagara Hospice, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or to Tri Town Ambulance.
