Obituary of Joan Rhinehart
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan V. Rhinehart passed away September 10, 2010, she will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, sister and friends to those who loved her most. Joan was born on Valentine's Day in 1932 to the late W. Harold and Mildred (Underwood) VanDusen. Joan worked extremely hard her whole life and was raised on a fruit farm in Cambria, graduating from Lockport High School in 1949. She was a dance instructor and always dreamed of being a "Rockette". She was employed until her illness at the family business where she was the secretary, which was started by her husband and herself, W.H. Rhinehart, Inc. Feed& Fertilizer, where all the customers knew her as "mother". Joan also had been employed at Ridge Road Express.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years Wilbert H. Rhinehart. Their love and devotion for each other will long be remembered and respected by their children. She loved the time she spent with her children, Cynthia R. (Brian) Waters, Wayne H. "Butch" (Lori) Rhinehart and the late Cathy and Charlotte Rhinehart. Joan cherished her seven grandchildren and was proud of each of them and their accomplishments including Jill R. Goodenough, Ingrid (Gibran) Rhinehart, Eric (Tracey) Waters, Denielle (Jared) Ander, Lindsey (Brett) Doebler, Janelle H. Dewart and Brett (Heather) Rhinehart. Her great grandchildren, Taylor, Gwenna, Jacob, Peyton, Alayna, Sydney, Lorin, Andrew, Jase and Troy always made her laugh, that infectious laugh, known as the "VanDusen cackle". Joan shared her laugh with her sisters Jean (late Bud) Gillings, Marilyn (Ben) Roenish both of Lockport and the late Marcia (John) Williamson of North Carolina. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Ethel (late Paul) Meyers of Lockport, Alice Mae (J. Ed) Hall of Newfane and Forrest (Jan) Rhinehart of Snyder, along with many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Joan was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and Angelus Chapter #559 Order of the Eastern Star where she was Matron in 1969 and secretary for 20 years. To our extended family and friends who visited or called, your support is really a blessing from God. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Lockport or to Middleport United Methodist Church, or to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
