Obituary of Charles W. Winters

Charles W. Winters passed away November 11, 2017 in Niagara Hospice House. Born in Lockport on July 11, 1929 he was the son of Linus and Hattie (Veomett) Winters. Charles served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1950. He worked for Local 129/22 in Niagara Falls, where he was a plumber and steam fitter for 60 years retiring in 1993. He was the manager of Brauer's Suburban League Fast Pitch, enjoyed bowling, ran the "Lockport Day's" in Florida for several years and was instrumental in the restoration of the canal tender on the big bridge with "CAPPY" at the helm. Charles was a member of the Navy/Marine Club where he served as past commodore, the VFW, American Legion, and the Elks Club. He was predeceased by his wife Bernadine (Cook) Winters in June 2003. Charles is survived by his children Charles L. Winters and Carol (Ross) Walker; grandchildren Gwen (Wolfgang) Kleber, Troy Walker, and late Cheri Walker; great grandchildren Tyler Walker, Zachary Walker, Ryleigh Blum, and Emma Davis and beloved cat Buddy; siblings late Norman, Layton, Herbert, Nelson, Elton, Winters, Eleanor Sanford, and Doris Jones; several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, Nov. 16th from 4-8 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport where services will be held Friday, Nov. 17th at 11 AM.
