Obituary of Robert O'Rielly

Robert James O'Rielly, 87, of Lockport, died peacefully on August 15,2010 at Niagara Hospice House after a short illness. Born in Lockport on March 12, 1923, he was the son of the late William & Anna (McCarthy) O'Rielly of Lockport. He attended St. Patrick's school and graduated from Lockport High School in 1940. After high school, he served in the then U.S. Army Air Corps as a bombardier on a B-24 Liberator during World War II. Based in Italy, he flew 50 combat missions over Europe and left the service after the war as a 1st Lieutenant.
Bob worked as a car salesman for more than 25 years at Heinrich Chevrolet in Lockport. Before that, he sold cars at David Cadillac and Timkey Pontiac. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2535, and also of the American Legion Post 410, and a longtime member of All Saints Parish/St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lockport.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, H. Patricia O'Rielly, of Lockport, their two sons, Michael P. O'Rielly and Daniel J. (Margaret) O'Rielly and four daughters from a previous marriage, Lily Susan O'Rielly, Sharon (Stephen) McDirmid, Robin (William) Stork, and Patricia O'Rielly. Bob is also survived by his step-daughter Debra L. (Stephen) Keyes, and step-sons Brian D. Waas, Kevin M. Waas, and Gregg A. (Lori) Waas. He had eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was one of seven children, and was predeceased by all of his siblings, William O'Rielly, Anna Margaret Smith, Daniel Patrick(Pat) O'Rielly, John Perry O'Rielly, Janice Craig, and P. Kevin O'Rielly. Committed to his family and a consummate Irishman, he was also a.1ongtime fan of both the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills, which he watched and followed closely.
Friends may call Friday 3-7 PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee Street, Lockport. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday morning at 11 AM in All Saints Parish at St Patrick's Church, 76 Church St, Lockport. Memorials to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, 14094 would be appreciated by the family.
