Obituary of Harley Dieter

Harley G. Dieter of Lockport NY, passed away Saturday July 25th in Odd Fellow and Rebekah Health Care Facility. Harley would have been 99 years old on December 13, 2009. In 1933 he was married to Mary (Scirati), who predeceased him in 1986. He was a resident of Lockport all of his adult life and a life long member of St. Anthony's RC Church in Lockport.
Harley had a passion for flying, which he began in 1934. During World War II he was a flight instructor for the US Army Air Corps., stationed in Arcadia Florida. After the war he returned to Lockport where he established a construction business which he operated until his retirement in 1976. During these 30 years Harley constructed many homes and commercial buildings in the Lockport area.
Harley is survived by a son, Joseph S. (Marianne) Dieter and is predeceased by his daughter Linda (Frank) Abrams. He is survived by four grandchildren, Mark (Martha) Dieter, Susan (Anthony) Ognissanti, Jeffrey (Jule) Dieter, Lisa (Thomas) Berg, predeceased by a grandson Frank Abrams. Harley is also survived by ten great grandchildren, and two sisters-in-law Gladys (Hugh) Dieter, Jenny (Herbert) Dieter and a brother-in-law Rocci (Frances) Scirati and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters, Myron (Jessie) Dieter, Herbert (Jenny) Dieter, Hugh (Gladys) Dieter, John (Gladys) Dieter, Gertrude (Stewart) Fetterly and Gladys (Pete) Moore. He leaves many friends, especially the Americo Varallo Family and the Robert Petti Family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Nicholas Varallo.
Relatives and friends may call may Sunday, August 2nd from 3-7 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 3rd at 10 AM in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 391 Market St., Lockport. Entombment will be in Glenwood Mausoleum.
