Russell Eugene Montgomery, 87 of Lockport, NY passed away suddenly from complications of cancer. He was born in Hornell, NY on April 5, 1923 to Paul and Bertha Gates Montgomery and graduated from Hornell High School in 1941.
He was a WW II veteran serving with the Army Air Force from July 1941 through Nov. 1945 with the Base SC Squadron 515 ASG as a supply technician and earning many medals including the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal while attaining the rank of Sergeant.

Russell and Violet would take many motorcycle trips on his Harley between NY and Pennsylvania with friends and as a family he loved to travel, fish, but most of all go camping. After the children grew up and were raising their families, Russ & Vi continued to travel all over country with their travel trailers visiting friends and family and eventually became snowbirds between Florida and NY until Violet pre-deceased him in December of 1991.
Russell always kept up with his class reunions and during the 1992 reunion he met a former high school classmate Marilyn(Howard) Rutty who also had recently lost her spouse and after a few dates were married in September 1992, residing in Hornell, NY and enjoyed wintering in Florida until moving to Lockport, NY in 2004. Russ & Marilyn enjoyed traveling, visiting, keeping up with all the grandchildren and playing cards with friends and family until she predeceased him in 2006. Russ continued to stay active with traveling, vacationing with family and still trying to keep up with all his grandchildren.
He stayed active throughout his life with the VFW and the American Legion and was especially moved and delighted to fly to Washington, DC aboard Honor Flight Network of Buffalo, NY in 2008 to view the new WW II Memorial.
