Obituary of Stanley Blonkowski

Stanley passed away at 99 years of age on Thursday August 4, 2016. He was born in Amsterdam, NY on March 23, 1917 the son of the late William and Stella (Stefanowski) Blonkowski. He married the former Lillian Groff on August 27, 1949, they were married for 53 years before she predeceased him on January 23, 2003. He is survived by his children; Kathryn (the late James) Berhalter, William and AnnMarie Blonkowski, Elizabeth and Thomas Marks. Ten grandchildren; Karen and Adin Bradley, Margaret Berhalter, Nicholas and Caroline Blonkowski, Thomas Blonkowski and Nicole Svajlenka, Peter Marks, Laura and Bradd Gower. Four great-grandchildren; Ava and Alexander Bradley and Charles and Quinn Blonkowski. He was the older brother of eight sisters; Loraine and Edward Sherman who survive him, the late Genevieve and John Kowalski, Mary and Raymond Nowak, Lota and John Bienacki, Frances and George Sahr, Dorothy Blonkowski, Helen and Matthew Dubaj, Delores and Adam Dubai and many nieces and nephews.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. that built the Hoover Dam, cleared the Alleghany Forest. He was a veteran of World War II attaining the rank of Captain. He served in the Army Air Corp as a navigator bombardier on a B-25 in the African and Italy invasions with the 9th Air Force. After the service he attended Erie County Technical School which became Erie County Community College. He graduated as a Mechanical Draftsman. He was a member of St. John's Roman Catholic Church, the former St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a charter member of the Lockport Disabled Veterans Chapter 157, an avid Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. Most of all he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday August 8th from 2-4 and 7-9PM in Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home 242 Genesee St. Lockport, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 10 AM in All Saints Parish Oratory, 391 Market Street, Lockport. In Lieu of flowers, memorials to the Disabled American Veterans, 130 S. Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, NY 14202 or to the Boy Scouts of America, Baltimore Area Council, 701 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21211, would be appreciated by the family.
