Shirley Coates Tolli better known as "Grandma Tolli" to adults and children alike passed away May 19, 2016 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Lockport. Daughter of Melvin and Clara Coates. She was born in Lockport October 9, 1932, attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and graduated St. Joseph's Academy class of 1950. A fifty year member of St. Anthony's Parish, she returned to All Saints Parish when former church was closed. Shirley operated a home day care for almost 20 years and then worked as a crossing guard at Roy B. Kelley School and a lunch monitor at Charles Upson followed by being a foster grandparent at both John Pound and Charles Upson. Her summers were spent in the city parks with a story time, reading programs she developed for the children. Grandma was very active in Charlotte Cross and city PTA receiving a Lifetime PTA Membership from the Junior Service League and a Womens International Decade Award both for services with the youth. Being a PARP and community reader were always a part of her interests. Attending dozens and dozens of her grandchildren's activities were a great joy to her as were her many good friends of 70 years or more.
Shirley is survived by one daughter and three sons, David (Marybeth) Tolli, Patricia Tolli Dellaccio, John (Paula) Tolli and Timothy (Karen) Tolli all of Lockport; nine grandchildren Jennifer, Adam (Lisa) Tolli, Jenna, Tanya Dellaccio, Kristen (Jeffrey) McCabe, Nicholas (Dana) Tolli, Karissa (Ray) Priester, and Lyle, Caroline Tolli; nine great grandchildren Amelia Tolli, Molly, Lucas, Annie, Colin McCabe, Grayson Tolli, Skylar, Logan Tolli, and Camden Priester; sister of Marion (Gerald) Landrigan and late Clarita Sandage; several nieces, nephews and loving friends.
